Artist Statement & Bio
Sanin Dosa is a teacher, poet, and traveler from Houston, Texas. Sanin believes every journey, whether through words or across continents, is a chance to understand people more clearly and connect more deeply. His poetry is free-form and reflects the lessons and truths that unfold in the process of aging, having new experiences, and making mistakes.
My poetry explores maturity. As I grow older, have new experiences, and continue to make mistakes, I learn about myself and what is important to me. My poetry reflects the lessons and truths that reveal themselves in this process
My poems are free-form. I write when I am not working. Those days, I travel a lot and let chance guide my days. So, it feels natural to write in a form that can reflect that. I also make photographs with black-and-white 35mm film. The imagery helps create a visual perspective of the emotions or themes in my poems.
My poetry is inspired by romantic writers who describe nature in a profound and beautiful way; Octavio Paz, Walt Whitman, Federico Garcia Lorca, and Pablo Neruda. As an English-speaking poet, my goal is to make the English language beautiful. I want to find ways to make English verses, words, and syllables roll past your tongue like warm peppermint tea.
